New League, New Look.

The Solway Sharks are Dumfries' Premier Ice Hockey Team playing in the Northern Ice Hockey League (NIHL). Co-owners David McCarroll and Phil Reilly came to me in 2023 with the task of refreshing the player kit designs ahead of their first year competing in the NIHL.

We set out to create a cohesive collection of official jersey designs and event merchandise to launch the team into these new heights with style. Over the years, we've created upwards of 20 unique jersey designs worn by players and fans alike.

Core Collection Design

Prior to the start of the season, I worked closely with the owners and manufacturers to design a striking and versatile collection for the season.

After identifying promising design directions for the season, I explored thumbnail concepts for a core set of non-event jerseys – Home, away, alternate colour, home warm-up & away warm-up.

It was key that these were visually cohesive within themselves, and contrasted clearly with the kits of the opposition.

Special Events

Throughout the year, the owners came to me for a range of event-themed jerseys honouring everything from Pride to Remembrance Day.

The challenge and fun of event jerseys is in creating a fun and desirable kit that (sometimes loosely) ties back to the team's brand.

These limited-time designs were often tied to a charity fundraiser and gave the fans a chance to own a one of a kind replica of their favourite player's kit.
